There comes a time in life when you just have to think about what you want in your life and who you want by your side. A time when you think through past events or just debate in your mind whether this is where you want to be, surrounded by those same people.
And it all comes down to one moment of truth where you ask yourself: are those people the same or have they changed in a way that confirms you don’t know them anymore?
Do you still trust them or have they lost that a while ago with their actions? Would you still give up everything to make them happy?
If the answer to those questions isn’t favorable then I have news for you. You need to reconsider how much your friendship means to you. Are you ready to finally grow a backbone and stand up for yourself, stand up for what you believe in or are you happy to sit quietly and wait for them to finish by treating you like trash?
Well guess what: life will never get better if you don’t let your voice be heard. If those people are your real friends, they will accept it and love you all the same for it. But if they want to shut down that voice then there is no room for them in your life.
Your existence is equally important as theirs. You live on this planet to contribute – not just exist but to live. You are here to inspire and be inspired. And people who drag you down like a weight chained to you and dragging you under the surface will never stop doing that. Because though they might not enjoy bringing people down at first, somewhere along the way, they find themselves lost in it.
If a person broke your trust and doesn’t admit it no matter how much you try to make them see it, sooner or later you have to realize that some day, you’ll have to let go. If a person doesn’t care that they hurt you then you shouldn’t give them the right to hurt you any further. Have some pride and dignity and leave.
Walk out the door before it’s too late. Break the contact. Say goodbye, adios, ciao, nasvidenje, auf wiedersehen.
If a person hurt you in any way and they do not regret it or show no sign of guilt then screw them as well.
Your friends – real friends – should care. They should be there by your side 100%. You should be their top priority. And when you fight, they should never go behind your back and talk about your fights because that’s between you two.
A real friend would try to make you happy every day no matter how hard of a job it is.
A real friend never tries to manipulate you and they never abandon you. They never make you feel bad about being who you are or about being yourself.
A real friend tries.
A real friend tries to be in your life no matter how impossible. No matter the distance, no matter the time. A real friend makes you smile until your cheeks hurt, laugh until your stomach aches, takes care of you when you’re sick or heartbroken, a real friend loves you unconditionally.
Best friends are rare. And when you find one – a real one – cherish them.
But if you can’t trust a person or if you know that this is not a friendship you deserve, don’t be afraid to let go.
That’s my advice for today.
